The August Wardrobe Reset - Two Weeks to Wear it or Let it Go

Well, we certainly can’t complain that our summer clothes haven’t had a chance this year.

After weeks of sunshine and some seriously hot days, the heatwave seems to have finally taken a break. And with just two weeks of August left, this feels like the perfect time for a little wardrobe reality check.

Not an autumn clear-out. Not yet.

Instead, have a look at the summer clothes hanging in your wardrobe and ask yourself one very simple question:

Have I actually worn this?

We all have them. The dress bought with great intentions. The top that looked lovely on the hanger. The trousers we were definitely going to wear once the weather warmed up.

Well…the weather warmed up.

So if something has made it all the way through a proper British heatwave without leaving the wardrobe, perhaps it’s time to find out why.

The Two-Week Challenge

For the rest of August, pick out the summer pieces you haven’t worn and give them one last chance.

Put them somewhere you can see them rather than hidden at the back of the wardrobe, and over the next two weeks make an effort to wear them.

Then decide:

LOVE IT — I’d forgotten how much I liked this. It stays.

STYLE IT — I like it, but I need to find a better way to wear it.  Sometimes all it needs is a different top, a new accessory or one fresh piece to make an old favourite work again

LET IT GO — It doesn’t fit properly, doesn’t feel like me anymore, or I simply don’t reach for it.

And if you put something on, look in the mirror and immediately take it off again?

I think we have our answer.

Don't Pack Summer Away Just Yet

There is still plenty of time for warm days, holidays, lunches outside and those lovely late-summer afternoons, so this isn't about clearing everything away.

It's simply about working out which clothes have earned their place in your wardrobe for next summer — and which are taking up space that could be used by something you genuinely enjoy wearing.

By the time September arrives, you'll have a summer wardrobe containing pieces you know you love, wear and feel good in.

And perhaps a charity-shop bag by the door.

Mine may already have something rather infamous in it… 😉
