The Holy Grail - Finding the Perfect Pair of Jeans
Share
Buying the perfect pair of jeans can be a challenge, but with the right approach, you can find a pair that fits you well and suits your style. Here are some steps to help you buy the perfect pair of jeans:
When we had our bricks and mortar shop we were helping Ladies find their perfect pair of jeans over and over again on a daily basis.
We always knew when a customer walked in whether they were looking for jeans as there was a look of dread on her face…. It’s the holy grail…..finding that perfect pair of jeans … and something most women dread. However, find that perfect pair and she walked taller, the confidence was game-changing and the pure happiness was beyond rewarding.
Let’s face it, there is nothing more demoralising than trying on pair after pair and hating the reflection in the mirror.
So, before we even started looking at jeans themselves we had virtually the same conversation every time (unless of course, she was a regular coming back for more)
Whether you are in a shop or buying online these are questions you need to ask yourself:
Think About the Wash:
Jeans come in various washes, from light to dark and everything in between. Consider what wash will best complement your wardrobe and personal style
Think About Your Lifestyle
Consider how you'll be wearing the jeans and what activities you'll be doing in them. If you lead an active lifestyle, you may want jeans with stretch for added mobility. If you need jeans for work, you may want a darker wash for a more polished look. These can also then be worn to a smart casual event with a classic blouse and blazer.
Check the fabric:
The fabric of the jeans can affect how they fit and feel. Stretch denim can be more comfortable and forgiving, while rigid denim has less give. Choose a fabric that suits your preferences and needs. When you look at the label check the % of elastane, elastomultiester, spandex, etc. The higher the number the more stretch they will have. Our best-selling jeans used to be any brand that had 98% cotton with 2% Elastane. If buying jeans with more stretch then look at sizing down to allow for the stretch so you don't end up with baggy jeans.
Choose the right rise:
Jeans come in different rises, including low-rise, mid-rise, and high-rise. The rise refers to the distance from the crotch seam to the waistband. Choose a rise that feels comfortable and flatters your body shape. If you have a long body then you are mainly looking for mid or high rise … unless you really love the low rise look.
Don't be afraid to invest:
A good pair of jeans is worth investing in, as they can last for years and become a staple in your wardrobe. Look for quality construction and materials that will stand the test of time. We used to say to our customers; would you think twice about paying approx £100 for a dress to wear for a special occasion that you may wear once or twice again before it then hangs in your wardrobe. Even if you wear it 3 more times that’s £25 per wear.
Consider investing that in a good quality pair of jeans. If you choose the right wash (see above) which can then be worn on many occasions, and you look after them then you probably looking at a maximum of £2 per wear…. Yes, I know where I would rather spend my money.
Be honest - know your measurements:
A lot of jeans are sold in waist sizes so at least that gives you somewhere to start from. Don’t just guess … that can be demoralising from the start.
Understand your body type:
Yes, that’s a whole blog on its own but be open-minded if your Sales Adviser suggests say a straight when you have always gone for bootcut. Slim is a great halfway between skinny and straight. Invest some time in trying on different leg shapes and you could be pleasantly surprised.
Consider the fit:
Pay attention to how the jeans fit around your waist, hips, thighs, and legs. They should be snug but not too tight, and they shouldn't gap at the waist. Make sure you can move comfortably in them. Always test them sitting down … nobody needs to reveal too much at the back. Sizes can vary between brands and styles, don’t rely solely on the size label.
Consider alterations:
If you find a pair of jeans that you love but they're slightly too long or too loose in certain areas, consider getting them altered. A tailor can hem the length or take in the waist to ensure a perfect fit.
By following these steps, you can find the perfect pair of jeans that fit well, flatter your figure, and suit your style.
